3. September 2015: Inflight Menu ZRH – JFK (LX16)

The very moment you know you’ve been upgraded, you already start your flight in a mentally different state which led to me ordering a glass of red wine at 9:30am – without having had breakfast. Not the smartest start into the day so I only had water and tea for the rest of the flight. But the inflight menu was actually very enjoyable. It started with a small “greeting from the kitchen” – “pickled vegetables” which were a nice wake up for your palate.

The starter was “mojito salmon with citrus fruits and aubergine purée” and I must say it was very tasty. Especially the fresh citrus fruit in combination with the salmon was lovely. I must admit that it was a very lovely combination, so my expectations were relatively high for the main course.

The “beef tenderloin with plum and chestnut crust, balsamic sauce, saffron polenta, red cabbage” was fine. For my personal gusto, the beef was done a bit too much but it was still enjoyable and the chestnut crust provided it with a very nice touch.

The “Linthaler Käse, Glarner Bergkäse and Reblochon with orange mustard” were a smooth transition to the dessert. And while the cheeses were all rather intense, it was definitely matching my gusto.

To finish off the inflight menu, the “trietolt mousse and brownie, blueberry coulis” was served. And I must admit it was a bit too sweet for me.

The whole menu was finished by some Swiss chocolates and Ice cream by Mövenpick.

Shortly before arrival, “potato salad with warm ham” was served. While being lovely as an idea, I must admit that it did not match the previously served courses which I’ve had for lunch.

Overall, my inflight experience in the new SWISS business class was definitely a pleasant one. The service was overall very good (besides the one incident when the flight attendant asked me which wine I want and I said the Spanish one, and she served me the French one anyway) and friendly. The place is as atmospheric as it can be on a plane. And the dishes were actually very good. I hope to be upgraded again! :)
