24. November 2015: Restaurant Lindenhofkeller
The “ox salad with carrots” was served as an amuse bouche – a greeting from the kitchen and it was a yummy beginning of the evening.
As a starter I went for the “red tuna sashimi in a sesame coat with octopus carpaccio and cold pressed olive oil” (CHF 31.00) and while the sashimi was actually very tasty, the octopus carpaccio somehow lacked a bit something. It was rather plain and a bit disappoiting taste-wise compared to the tuna.
As a main course I obviously had to try the signature dish “Swiss ‘Prime’ veal saddle cooked at low temperature in the stove, 200gr” (CHF 49.00) and while it was absolutely good I must say I have had it made better previously. Same place, same table (admittedly, coincidence), same dish, but this time it did not fully meet my expectations.
The “parmesan risotto” (CHF 7.00) as a side dish was perfectly smooth and creamy though. Definitely worth trying – even by itself.
To end the evening some chocolates were served which were a nice way to close the dinner. Overall, the dishes are definitely good but they somehow did not come up to previous performances. The service was okay but sometimes you would have to be quite patient until someone arrived at your table and refilled your wine or water glass – and that despite the fact that the restaurant was not that full this night.
Overall, the Lindenhofkeller still remains an institution and the Swiss Prime Veal Saddle is still absolutely great as well as the atmosphere. However, that evening it seemed that the dishes just did not fit so perfectly as they used to. Still, worth trying.
