30. December 2015: Restaurant San Jon

| February 29, 2016 | 0 Comments

Frankly, it is not easy to find the Restaurant San Jon as it is located super remote even from a place like Scuol. While the drive up there in winter needs quite some caution, it is actually worth it. You can do a sleigh ride there and enjoy the beauty of the nature and sunset up in the mountains.

Once you are done with that, and you get back pretty frozen, you can enter the warm restaurant and enjoy “wood (dried meat from Sent, beef, pig’s neck, ham, salsiz, pickled vegetables) (CHF 19.50). The selection of cold cuts is quite good but there is no matching amount of bread served.

However, the cold cuts obviously don’t really help you in heating up but an “Original San Jon Swiss stone pine fondue” (CHF 22.00) definitely helps. We were a party of four and the portion was incredibly big that we did not even manage to finish the whole thing. And, frankly, for only CHF 22.00 per person, you get a looooot of cheese. But that was not only it. They had a special mixture of cheese and seasoning. So much smoother than any fondue I have enjoyed in my life. And somehow also much more aromatic. Definitely a great fondue!

The restaurant itself is simple in its decor but you feel comfortable. And after being out in the cold, even more so. The waitresses are friendly but they are not to be rushed. Whenever one of our party was trying to wave at them or make the come quicker, they were always like “relax”. Still, they were friendly and once they had taken your order, also rather swift. The prices are more than fair which is actually astonishing as the place is so remote.
