19. January 2016: Ristorante Pizzeria Cantinone

| March 9, 2016 | 0 Comments

Although I have been living in Milan for a year and I have driven by Lugano like 50 times, I never managed to actually stop there. However, finally I managed to spend a couple of days in Lugano so of course I had to try some places.

I started with “Tris di Polenta “Cantinone”; with porcini mushroms, gorgonzola cheese, bacon with balsamic vinegar reduction” (CHF 19.00). The polenta was creamy and the toppings were rich. The bacon with balsamic vinegar reduction could have had a more intense bacon taste for my personal gusto but the other two were exquisite.

Secondly, I went for the “Insalata Cacciatore (leaf salad, apples, grapes, cherry tomatoes, curry beef cubes)” (CHF 21.50) which was a very sound dish as well. Simple but rich and while I was a bit skeptical at first if the curry would fit with the salad, it actually did quite well.

The place is nice but simple like you would imagine an Italian restaurant somewhere in the middle of nowhere. The waiter was friendly, became friendlier when I spoke Italian, and did a good job until the moment we had ordered everything we needed. Then attention was gone. Getting the bill was quite tricky. And took a bit of time until he finally reacted and brought it to us.

The place is overall lovely as you feel like you are in a nice Italian restaurant with good food, very fair prices (also for beverages, e.g. 0,33L, Gassosa, CHF 4.90; 1L, mineral water, CHF 8.50; double espresso, CHF 4.50) and fair service.
