But …! Definitely no but! Restaurant Aber (19. March 2016)
A couple of months ago I passed the Restaurant Aber (German for “but”) late in the evening and had a drink which was great. And that night I decided to have dinner at the Restaurant Aber the next time, I was in Frankfurt. So I had booked a table for our group a couple of weeks ahead and it was absolutely necessary as the place was full again.
The menu is not very extensive but you can find a couple of tasty things to start like the “tender sardines in olive oil” (EUR 7.00) …
… the “manchego cheese” (EUR 8.00) …
… the “marinaded olives” (EUR 3.50) or …
… or the “bacon from Southern Tirol” (EUR 7.50). And the starters are definitely very good and already set the scene for the main courses.
The “Vegas strip steak with fennel from the oven, potatoes au gratin, mojo rocho and red wine reduction” (EUR 23.00) does not look so appealing as the potatoes somehow look rather “meh”. However, the meat was incredibly tender and perfectly cooked medium rare as requested. Overall, it was a lovely dish.
What I really liked again were the drinks. My “Moscow Mule (vodka, cucumber, ginger beer)” (EUR 11.00) was prepared perfectly. Overall, the restaurant is somewhat more of a bar but manages to be a restaurant. It feels like one of these “wine bars which serve food” but it is not really a “wine bar”. So, I can’t quite categorize it but I must admit that it is absolutely worth a visit when you’re in town!
