True Austrian dishes: Restaurant Triangel (16. April 2016)

| June 15, 2016 | 0 Comments

Fancy for lunch, simple for dinner! The Restaurant Triangel is apparently one of the best restaurants in Salzburg when it comes to traditional Austrian food (at least according to TripAdvisor). I had booked a table in advance (which seems to be quite uncommon for this place) and when we arrived a bit earlier than originally scheduled, they were kind enough to suggest us to go inside instead of sitting outside as it was about to get cold.

Once inside you find yourself in a small restaurant which really gives away the sense of a hut in the alps. Wooden benches, wooden tables, really Alp like decoration.

One of the specials of the day was a “wild garlic soup” (EUR 4.90) which immediately called my attention and while it looked rather boring when served it was actually absolutely great as the wild garlic was really still present in the form of small pieces of wild garlic at the bottom of the soup pot – so if you’d stir it a bit you would get the full wild garlic flavour.

As a main course I went for the “Viennese pork schnitzel with potatoes and cranberries” (EUR 13.90) and while it is not the original schnitzel from Vienna (as this is made of veal), it was actually quite tasty. However, if you are travelling to Austria for the first time, I would highly suggest to have a proper schnitzel from Vienna when you are in Vienna.

The service is friendly and does it’s best to be attentive but you sometimes have to make sure they see you as some things seem to be missing (like sugar on the table for a tea). What struck me a bit odd after checking the bill when home (well, I know, you should check it when you actually get it but I kind of never do) was that I was charged EUR 1.00 for butter. Butter? What butter?!

Overall, the Triangel is a decent place for tourists and locals offering decent Austrian dishes for a fair prices in a comfortable atmosphere with friendly and generally attentive waiters.
