Where the locals go: Trattoria La Casalinga (23. April 2016)
The Casalinga was recommended to us by a local – and it was a good recommendation. Although it was already around 1:30pm when we finally arrived the place was still superbusy but we were lucky to almost immediately get a table. I went for the “fegato alla salvia” (EUR 10.00) and while I have had livers which were smoother in the quality of the liver (less nerves and the like) this liver was actually incredibly smooth in taste. Obviously the generously applied butter helped in creating that sensation but it definitely was absolutely delicious.
The “Insalata di pomodori” (EUR 2.50) on the other hand was definitely not comparable to the fegato. I mean, obviously it is quite a different category and you decide yourself how much vinegar and oil you want to put on the salad but it was definitely not tomato season yet.
The prices are incredibly fair for what you get which is also true for the beverages (e.g. a bottle of mineral water, EUR 2.00; a bottle of 2012 Carmignano, EUR 18.00 and the double espresso was not even charged; however, a EUR 2.00 cover charge per person was charged). The place is very authentic and the waiters are jovial but professional at the same time, making sure all your orders are executed in due time. Only when I had asked for fresh pepper the waiter forgot and only served the pepper mill once I asked for it again. If you are looking for a truly Italian experience where the locals go for lunch on Saturday, the La Casalinga is worth going!
