Tasty Portuguese food swiftly served: Restaurant Sacramento do Chaido (6. May 2016)
My personal concierge from the Starwood program, Eileen, never fails to find the perfect spots in every city I go to. The Sacramento do Chaido was absolutely booked that evening. Even so booked that – when I tried to call and move the reservation to 30 minutes later – I was informed that this was impossible. However, when we arrived the first thing we were asked before being brought to the table was if we wanted to drink something at the bar and just let them know when we were ready to eat. I mean, this is absolutely fantastic but why the whole fuzz about not being able to move the reservation then?
However, the “Black Pork Pudding. With Apple Purée” (EUR 7.00) which I had as a starter was actually quite fine but it was definitely drier than other black pudding I have had before. The sweetness of the apple purée combined with the coarse consistency of the black pudding was actually quite delicious though (making up for the dryness of the black pudding.
What was a bit of a disappointment though was the “Entrecôte “Black Angus” together with Sautée potatoes with bacon” (EUR 19.00). The meat was cooked perfectly just as required (medium) but the meal itself (as in the combination of all the ingredients) was rather boring.
The “Mustard Sauce” which comes complimentary (you can pick from three different sauces) helped quite a bit in making the plate a “better dish”. What is lovely about the place is the atmosphere – tall rooms, tables on two floors, nice decoration, friendly service which is also quite attentive (not really super-attentive but doing a fine job).
Generally speaking, the prices for what you get are okay – but I had hoped for a bit more experimental, refined cuisine. The prices for the beverages are also okay, given you pay EUR 40.00 for a bottle of Andreza Grande Reserva, EUR 3.00 for an espresso, and EUR 3.00 for a bottle of water.
Something I still quite don’t get is the topic of the cover charge. I mean, EUR 2.50 for a piece of bread and olive oil is fine but – from my point of view – rather unnecessary.
Overall, the Sacramento do Chaido has a great atmosphere, is very active, vivid and intense. It even seems to turn towards a club after around 11pm (it isn’t actually, but it really gets more intense). If you want to dine here, you absolutely have to book a table in adance as you won’t stand a chance to get a table if you are not booking in advance for a Saturday night.
