A Korean food experience: Restaurant Kimchi Princess (13. May 2016)

| July 17, 2016 | 0 Comments

The “Gun Mandu (5 homemade deep-fried dumplings with a delicious beef filling and homemade soy sauce)” (EUR 6.20) are very tasty dumplings with one little mistake. They are very big so respectively difficult to eat with the chop sticks and almost fall when you grab them. Which can make the whole thing rather messy. Else, the dish is actually very savoury. The “Ojinger Twigim (crispy battered deep-fried squid rings & homemade soy sauce)” (EUR 7.50) sounded very promising but I must admit that the squid was a bit too chewy for my personal gusto.

When you go for the “Galbi Ros Gui (slices of Argentinian entrecôte served with chili-miso-paste & sesame oil)” (EUR 47.80 – for two people)” comes with a bunch of different side dishes like kimchi sprouts, rice, etc. What surprises me a bit is the fact that you get a whole lot of different sides but only one bowl of rice.

The concept is very cool – you get a place of raw fresh meat and then …

… you put it onto the grill which is set on your table. There is two things which are great: you get to decide how quick you want to eat. Well, at least in theory because in practice a waiter always shows up once your grill is empty and puts more meat on. So you cannot actually decide in what speed to eat. However, there is a second thing which is not entirely nice. If you are seated close to the grill, you will smell like you’ve been working in a kitchen and secondly, your clothes will be full of oil drops. So, it is recommended to sit a bit away from the grill.

In addition, the place is rather loud due to the many grills being set on table and also because it is wide and open. So I would recommend you to be a bit away from the grill and rather get a table which is closer to the windows as it isn’t as loud as in the centre or towards the back. The prices are very fair in general – however, I thought that the amount of meat you get for EUR 47,80 (two portions of EUR 23,90) is quite small. But else, it is rather fine (i.e. San Pellegrino, 0,75L, EUR 5.90; Espresso Doppio, EUR 2.50; Ripasso Superiore, EUR 31.20).

Overall, if you are looking for the table grill Korean experience, I can definitely recommend you to book a table in advance – ideally one closer to the windows. The dishes are definitely good and it is the perfect “group dish”.
