Outstanding drinks while watching the depressing return of the BVB team: Harry’s New York Bar @ Sheraton Grand Esplanade Hotel (21. May 2016)

In order to finalize the evening, the decision was taken to enjoy a drink or two at the hotel bar, the Harry’s New York Bar (which is apparently the oldest hotel bar according to their own statement). The drinks they serve seem to vary a bit in “quality”. While I had a “Lemongrass Mojito” (EUR 11.00) which was very tasty but served in a very small glass, the “Planter’s Punch” (EUR 14.00) I had subsequently to that was rather disappointing.

The “nachos with cheese” were rather dull. The cheese was this yellow kind of square cheese so it was not really that appealing. However, the Jalapenos they had served with it, actually made it tasty.

We were sitting outside – and suddenly there were police men everywhere. We were already wondering what was happening but then figured that the team of Borussia Dortmund which had just played against FC Bayer Munich (and had lost) was apparently staying at the hotel – and they walked in. And well, it was a completely depressing picture as the guys were obviously disappointed by themselves plus the fans were all not really motivated. I guess, if you are into soccer that is a moment to remember. If you are not, it was just a really depressing moment.

Overall, the Harry’s New York Bar at the Sheraton Grand Esplanade Hotel is a nice place to sit outside in the evening to enjoy a drink or two. The service was outstandingly friendly and the prices are decent for a hotel bar.
