Great location with a perfect after dinner view: Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall (20. September 2016)

| October 26, 2016 | 0 Comments

Sometimes you have a random idea and end up having dinner close to the Rheinfalls. Well, it was a good idea in any case. The Schloss Laufen is not exactly centrally located, and, unfortunately, you do not have view onto the Rheinfalls from the restaurant but you get to see it after dinner if you enter the terrace.

The evening started with a small hello from the kitchen – a “local char filet with fregola sarda”. The fish was simple but delicious and while fregola sarda is basically just some kind of pasta, I must say it just adds something to every dish I have had so far due to the special form it has.

Almost at the same time as the amuse bouche was served, some “bread & spread” was served – tomato butter, some other butter, and salted butter. All of them good and served with a selection of bread: olives, nuts, and lye bread.

Somehow, I felt like some pasta would be the right starter for the evening and went for the “ravioli stuffed with sun-dried tomatoes, basil pesto, rocket salad, and shaved parmesan cheese” (CHF 19.50) and while I am usually quite skeptical when it comes to pasta in Switzerland, I must say this was almost perfect. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the combination of the fresh cherry tomatoes with the sun-dried tomatoes stuffing was absolutely luscious!

In between the starter and the main, a little “break” was served – a “lemon sorbet with berries and champagne ‘Prelude'”. Given I was driving I only had very little champagne in it – which was perfect though as more would have killed the actual taste of the lemon sorbet and the berries.

The “LUMA pork with plum sauce, potatoes and onions, and sautéed forest mushrooms” (CHF 44.00) was – to my surprise – great. The meat was super tender and actually delicious in terms of taste. The mushrooms were good too but the potatoes were not entirely to my liking. I mean, they were good, well seasoned but somehow a bit too simple for the rest of the dish.

Together with the “double espresso” (CHF 5.80) some small chocolates were served – “mango filled”. At least, that is what the waitress said, however, once you took a bite, you realized it was actually passion fruit filled. The cupcake was fine too but the butter topping was a bit too heavy for my personal gusto.

Overall, the Restaurant Schloss Laufen am Rheinfall was great. The interior is lovely, truly nice. The service is friendly, and our waitress, Gabriele, did an outstanding job in being friendly, being there when needed but not bothering by being around all the time, and last but not least, the dishes are good and the prices are very fair!
