Tasty dishes but a bit too loud: Restaurant Box-Kitchen (17. November 2016)

| December 16, 2016 | 0 Comments

I visited the same premise a bit more than five years ago, when the restaurant was called salt. It is not longer called ‘salt’ anymore but Box-Kitchen as they combine both – a gym and a restaurant. The restaurant looks layout-wise pretty much the same as the Restaurant Salt looked. The interior decoration is a bit different but still appealing. What is not so great though is the acoustics – the place is way too loud to have a decent conversation.

The “Curry Humus with Papadam” (EUR 5.00) is a good starter but the humus is a bit too liquid for my personal gusto. Which makes eating it difficult as it easily drips of the papadam but the combination with the pomegranate seeds is actually quite tasty.

The main course on the other hand was actually delicious – the “Dry Aged Loin, Chutney, Vegetables, Herb Butter” (EUR 27.50) was perfectly cooked medium rare as requested, the meat was aromatic and the vegetables selection appropriate. The tomato chutney was mouth-watering and went incredibly well with the meat.

For dessert, I went for the “caramel cream, earl grey ice cream, mango” (EUR 10.50) and while it was already looking lovely, it tasted exquisite. Especially the earl grey ice cream with the sweetness of the mango made it an outstanding combination.

Already the bread served was interesting – especially the combination of lemon juice, oil, and salt. But also the green bread is definitely interesting in looks – it did not taste much different than the regular bread but is definitely something which is a nice surprise to the eye.

The service is generally friendly and attentive and they are actually quite quick in taking your order and bringing your dishes. The beverages are fine too – especially the lemonades like the “ginger mint lemonade” (0,5L, EUR 5.80) is worth trying. Overall, the Box-Kitchen is an interesting place but I was not quite able to grasp to what degree there was a relation between boxing and the kitchen – besides the name.
