Worth the waiting time of 30+ minutes: House of Small Wonder (27. November 2016)

| December 31, 2016 | 0 Comments

Before you enter the “House of Small Wonder” – be aware: You need to be patient! The place is apparently famous for breakfast / brunch and sets a couple of rules: Cash only! No reservations! We agreed to meet at 11:30am and I was there in time so I walked up to the first floor asking for a table and was informed that for a table of four, the waiting time would be approximately 30-40 minutes. Turns out, it was 40! After waiting for 40 minutes in a not so comfortable waiting area, our table was ready.

I went for the “Kakuni Sandwich (apple-fed pork belly Kakuni on a wheat roll served with iceberg lettuce, tomato, sweet soy sauce and mustard mayonnaise; served with spinach salad)” (EUR 10.00) which was absolutely great in taste. The pork belly was very smooth and soft – unlike so many other pork bellies I have tried in my life. The sweet soy sauce and mustard mayonnaise finished the dish perfectly!

In order to comply with health standards :-) , I went for an “avocado and goat cheese sandwich (homemade chive goat cheese, avocado on a multi-grain roll)” (EUR 4.00) which was definitely okay but it lacked kind of the ‘special effect’ in my mouth. So I’d definitely go for the ‘Kakuni’ again but not the avocado one.

The place is definitely a hipster place but with an Asian touch. All waiters are Asian and speak fluently English but not so much German – all in a very charming way. The “Fresh Mint Tea” (EUR 4.00) and the “Ginger Tea” (EUR 3.00) are both great and make up the perfect breakfast for a lazy Sunday.
