Outstanding service and amazing beef tenderloin: Restaurant TAO’s (8. December 2016)

| January 12, 2017 | 0 Comments

It was one of these evenings – one of these evenings where you just can’t stop laughing, when you enjoy the dishes, when you enjoy the food, when it is just kind of perfect. We went for the “steamed handmade Dim Sum (mixed: filled with duck, beef, and shrimp)” (CHF 38.00) to share for four as a starter. The waitress, Laura, kindly informed us – upon asking – that there are 12 dumplings so we avoided ordering two Dim Sums to start. The Dim Sum was good but nothing extraordinary.

As a main, I went for the “US Black Angus tenderloin” (CHF 58.00) with “Japanese Hollandaise” and “Chili Coriander Risotto” (CHF 7.50 on the menu, CHF 7.00 on the bill). The meat was incredibly tasty. Like one of the best meats I have had in a couple of months – so aromatic, so rich! Absolutely outstanding! And it went very well with the “Japanese Hollandaise”. The chili coriander risotto was smooth and aromatic at the same time – perfect main course! And while – in my opinion – it was not entirely ‘medium rare’ as ordered but more ‘medium’, it tasted delicious.

For dessert, I went for a scoop of “kaffir cocos” and “sour cream butter milk” (CHF 4.50 each) which was served with fresh fruit and was as good. With regards to the food, there is absolutely nothing to complain. With regards to the service not really anything either – Laura did an outstanding job. One of the funniest waitresses – and at the same time professional – I have experienced in a long time. Her colleague though made a mistake and brought us the sashimi without even asking before the Dim Sum (which we didn’t order).

The atmosphere of the place is also rather nice, quite modern, atmospheric. The prices for the dishes are high but appropriate. The prices for the drinks are Zurich like but definitely okay too – a “double espresso” accounts for CHF 7.00, a 4cl “Grappa della Camomilla” for CHF 14.00 (which also tastes quite interesting). The CHF 10.00 for a litre of Rhäzünser is a bit over the top though which I also consider for the Verdejo (0,1L) for CHF 11.00 per glass. The CHF 280.00 for the 1,5L Aliòn on the other hand is decent, respectively actually quite fair – especially considering the quality of the wine. Overall, the TAO’s is a place very recommendable for the US Angus and the service. Reservation is a must.
