Traditional hotel bar with limited drinks selection: 1912 Museo Bar Palace (10. December 2016)
The 1912 Museo bar – which references to the year in which The Westin Palace Madrid was opened – is a great hotel bar. The interior is kind of traditional but then again that is what you would expect from a hotel which is 100+ years old. The waiter is relatively attentive and shows up shortly after we were seated. I went for a “Moscow Mule” (EUR 18.50) which was quite decent.
My company wanted a ‘Mint Julep’ – a drink they did not have on the menu (which was surprising to me given it is really a classic and a bar like the 1912 Museo Bar should definitely have such a drink). However, after inquiring at the bar, the waiter confirmed that they can make the drink. Well, turns out they kind of can but not really. I mean, a proper Mint Julep, IMHO, should be served in a tin cup and iced outside and it wasn’t but only served in a regular glass.
However, the 1912 Museo Bar Palace has all elements of a proper hotel bar – with slight room for improvement.
