Good dishes but too tiny tables: Restaurant Gogogi (4. January 2017)
There was one thing I immediately realized when sitting down – there was not much space for a Korean meal. And I was right about that. First, we re-used a main course as a starter as basically there are no starters on the menu (but one). So we shared a vegetarian version of the “Dongrae Pajeon (cayenne peppers, egg, spring onions, home-made soy sauce)” (EUR 10.50) which was kind of like an omelet.
As a main, we went for the “Bulgogi (in home-made soy sauce pickled beef, glass noodles, brown king oyster mushroom, button mushrooms, carrots, cayenne peppers, onions, leek, sesame oil, home-made broth)” (EUR 19.50 per person; min. 2 people) which is served with salad leaves to roll your food in.
And a variety of side dishes like kimchi …
… and sweet potatoes …
… but the main attraction is the grill which is put on your table and prepared by the waiter. While the combination was very tasty and the meat was better than I had expected, the salad leaves are to small to actually wrap anything in them – so while it tasted quite Korean (or at least what I know to be Korean), we didn’t eat it very Korean style.
The place is nice as it is rather simple and down to earth – which unfortunately also shows in the service. They are friendly, yes, definitely, but they are also rather slow. You have to be quite patient and we were not explained if we had to wait for them to prepare the Bulgogi themselves (which they did) or if we had to do it on our own. Still, the place is nice, the prices are fair which is also true for the beverages (i.e. Gerolsteiner Sprudel, 0,75l, EUR 5.50; fresh ginger tea, EUR 3.50; Tiger Beer, 0,33l, EUR 3.50).
Make sure to book a table in advance though as even on a Wednesday night the placed was packed.
