A speak easy which is not really a speak easy anymore: Buck and Breck (5. January 2017)
The Buck and Breck is a speak easy which is not really a speak easy anymore. While the entrance is still quite hidden and you have to know where to ring the bell in order to be admitted (and it looks nothing like a bar from outside), the information around the bar is quite publicly available by now – including on their own homepage.
When we arrived, the bouncer told us the bar was full but he offered to take up our number and call us when something became available. And he actually did. So, 45 minutes later we were in the Buck and Breck. Once you are admitted to the bar, it turns out that it is lovely – especially, since the place is way more spacious than I had expected plus there is no “standing around”. Everyone gets assigned a seat and a small table was already waiting for us when entering.
I went for the “London Buck” (EUR 13.50) which was kind of their own speciality close to a “London Mule”. And it was very good. The service is friendly and really into their job – making sure that the customer really gets what he/she wants. They also custom-make drinks for you if you tell them what you want. The only thing which was a bit of a disappointment for me: they do not offer any vodka based drinks.
If you’re going, it does make sense to call beforehand (number below) to make sure there is space.
