Decent Italian business lunch with non-attentive service: Restaurant Amalfi (10. January 2017)
I have been a couple of times at the Restaurant Amalfi but it is quite some time ago since the last visit. A lunch menu for CHF 19.00 sounded like a great bargain and definitely untypical for Zurich. The “potato cream soup” as a starter was decent. It could have been a tiny bit thicker for my personal gusto but it definitely helps you warm up during winter times.
The “risotto al pomodoro, con rucola e mozzarella di bufala” on the other hand was actually great. And a way bigger portion than expected. While we were served pretty much straight away after being seated because we were kind of early for lunch, the service quality and attention deteriorated during the course of the meal. At the very end the waiter did almost not see us and it took ages for him to bring the bill.
The ‘discount’ you get on the food prices is taken again by the prices of the beverages. A litre of San Pellegrino accounts for CHF 9.50 and a double espresso for CHF 7.00. Definitely not on the cheap side! However, a good place for a business lunch if you are not in a rush.
