Learning about a new root – stachys: Restaurant Wirtschaft zur Au (13. January 2017)

| February 28, 2017 | 0 Comments

Who would have thought that I’d learn about a root in the Wirtschaft zur Au. Definitely not me! But I did – the starter was a “leaf salad with stachys, mountain potato chips and a honey mustard dressing”. I was wondering what stachys was and it turned out to be a root (which doesn’t look too appealing) – the one you can see in the picture at the bottom right. The salad itself was decent, the chips good, and – last but not least – the staychys didn’t taste like much (but the sauce).

As a main, the “Swiss prime rib with jus, polenta, and root vegetables” was served. While the meat was tender and juicy (also due to the fat), the polenta did not taste like anything. It was absolutely blunt. What was lovely was the fact that they served “supplement”. Something I had not expected.

While it looked nice, the “Crema Catalana” was definitely not good. The texture wasn’t anything like a crema catalana and it tasted very dull. What was also not so tingly was the service. We were placed in a separate room – which was incredibly red – and why you would think that 15 people ready to spend money would receive good service, this was actually not the case. I mean, it is fine if you think as customers as a burden but if you don’t do that as a waiter, you should make sure that the glasses are always full, that there is enough water and wine.

Overall, it was okay but not more than that. The food was – besides the dessert – better than I had expected but the service definitely was not up to the task at all.
