Great for local food from the Grisons: Restaurant Ustria (4. Feburary 2017)

Besides the Kurhaus there is not so much in Lenzerheide but there is the Ustria and it is definitely worth visiting. The place is rather simple, looks more like a typical town restaurant, and it probably is. But they manage to make part of it quite appealing. The owners – apparently – used to have a wine shop and made sure that part of the restaurant is actually a bit more modern than the rest. And that is the part we had lunch in. I went for a “Grison barley soup” (CHF 9.50) as a starter which was heart warming – especially if you haven’t been eating anything the whole day.

As a main course, I went for another typical local dish, “spinach flour dumplings with bacon stripes and onions (Krautpizokels)” (CHF 24.50 according to the menu, but charged CHF 23.50). And while it is somehow like spaetzle, it is a bit different still. And while it is simple, it is one of these dishes which just make you happy when you eat it!

The prices for the dishes are decent and the prices for the non-alcoholic beverages too (0,5l Ice Tea, CHF 4.20), however, the white wine we had, the “Cure d’Attalens” was rather dull and more surprisingly, there was no reduction when you took a larger carafe (i.e. 0,3l, CHF 22.50; 0,5l, CHF 37.50). The service varies depending on the person – one waitress did an outstanding job as she was friendly, jovial, just positive. While the other one was grumpy – like grumpy cat. I mean, I am sorry if you do not like your job or have a bad day, but this is not really my problem as a customer unless I caused it, which I didn’t in this case. Cheer up, seriously!

Overall, the Restaurant Ustria can be recommended for the typical local dishes at a fair price in a decent atmosphere – and I just keep my fingers crossed that the friendly waitress serves you.
