Great pulled-pork burger with not the real parmesan truffle fries: Brasserie Freilager (6. March 2017)

| April 22, 2017 | 0 Comments

I must say, generally, the Restaurant Brasserie Freilager is a safe bet. However, the quality varies a bit – especially with regards to the service. The last time, I paid the restaurant a visit (read the review), the service was absolutely outstanding. This time, it wasn’t perfect. I went for the “spinach ri otta ravioli with pine nuts in brown butter” (CHF 17.00) as a starter which was a bit of a rip-off considering the number of ravioli served but admittedly, it was a very tasty dish.

As a main course I went for the “pulled pork-ribs burger with chipotle chili, avocado, and coriander” (CHF 29.00) with “parmesan truffle fries”. While the burger was impeccable, the fries didn’t work out properly. Firstly, I got regular fries and when I complained that I had ordered the other ones, the waiter decided to argue with me first but then gave in and exchanged them. Although he just put some cheese and truffle on the pommes alumettes – so I am quite sure that this was not the way the ‘original’ fries were supposed to be served. However, I cannot prove that, but it just somehow looked suspicious.

What I liked a lot was the “dried tomato spread and the parmesan” served with the pasta – it fit perfectly and made for a perfect finish of the dish.

And the bread with the tomato spread was also quite lovely – as mentioned, generally, nothing to complain about the Brasserie Freilager as the place is nice in atmosphere, the dishes are good, and the prices are overall quite decent. Only the service seems to be kind of a wild card if you get a good waiter or not.

What I like a lot is the fact that they serve the so called “Freilager water, 0,5l” which only costs CHF 3.00. Really not a rip-off – especially for Zurich where you end up paying up to CHF 7.50 for half a bottle of water. And the CHF 5.00 for a double espresso are also absolutely decent. As mentioned, if you decide to dine at the Restaurant Brasserie Freilager, preferably make sure you get to be attended by Julia.
