Overrated – definitely a slight disappointment: Restaurant Acquarello (8. March 2017)
The Acquarello used to be the Restaurant David 38 back when I was studying in St. Gallen – which is quite some years ago. But according to online reviews it is still a very good address so I was obviously quite curious what was expecting me. I went for one of the 9 lunch menu options which started with the “soup of the day” which – well, was more kind of “best of the rest”. And too thin for my personal gusto.
The “Involtini alla Martorana (beef involtini, stuffed with ham, mozzarella) served with potatoes and spinach” (CHF 27.50) were rather chewy. I suppose if you’d served them a bit earlier before all the mozzarella had left the meat, it might have been quite juicy but like that it was rather dry and not entirely pleasant. The potatoes were okay but the spinach was again rather boring – so frankly, overall, I didn’t get the best impression of the restaurant.
Admittedly, the waitress was friendly and rather swift and managed to get the bill right after we had asked (something you don’t experience often enough anyway) – and the prices for the beverages are also okay (0,5l San Pellegrino, CHF 5.90; double espresso, CHF 5.80). While the restaurant was fully booked, it is definitely a place I will not visit so soon again given it was disappointing to me.
