Smooth cheese fondue with standard chili flakes: Fonduestube Romeo & Julia @ Steigenberger Grandhotel Belvédère Davos (11. March 2017)
The Fonduestube Romeo & Julia is famous for its variety of fondues – kinda makes sense, given the name. As a starter, you get dried ham with two spreads and some bread. Generally, that is a nice starter which I personally also liked but given one of our party was vegetarian – and no alternative was offered – a bit of a pity.
We went for a “spicy cheese fondue with chili” (CHF 29.00 per person) which was definitely quite a large portion but the cheese was smooth. However, the chili was somewhat ‘cheap’ as there were just some dried chili flakes which were put on top of the liquid cheese.
The “potatoes” (CHF 6.50) and the “pickles and fruit” (CHF 5.50) were a great complementary element to …
… regular bread. Overall, the fondue experience at the Fonduestube Romeo & Julia is recommended as you get to pick from a lot of different fondues and at least the one I have tried was quite enjoyable.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is quite nice – a bit dark for my personal gusto but overall fine. The waitress was swift and friendly. Overall, if you are staying at the Steigenberger in Davos and feel like having a fondue, the Romeo & Julia is definitely a good choice.
