Pure sin but ensuring a good state of happiness: Restaurant Bärengasse (14. March 2017)

| May 6, 2017 | 0 Comments

After having tried the soup “Fire & Ice (carrot chili ginger soup with mango sorbet)” (CHF 12.00) I believe to recall that I have tried this soup before. And I still like it as you have the spiciness of the ginger while the sweetness of the mango sorbet balances it off quite perfectly. In addition you have the combination between the hot soup and the cold ice cream in one dish – interesting!

As a main, I went for the “Entrecôte Café de Paris – Bärengasse, 180gr” (CHF 56.00) which is pure sin but pure happiness at the same time. The meat was perfectly medium when served and the Café de Paris sauce just goes great with it.

And you do not only get one little plate but you can refill your plate a couple of times and pour the Café de Paris …

… all over your Pommes Alumettes! Luscious! Mouth-watering! Sinful! But soooooo great!!!

The prices are definitely a bit steep but given the state of mind you walk out in when you leave, I think it’s okay. However, charging CHF 12.00 for 1L Rhäzünser seems a bit over the top if you ask me. The “doubles espresso” with CHF 6.00 on the other hand is again in line with regular city prices. The atmosphere is nice, traditional, somewhat like I imagine a restaurant in the 70ies or 80ies to be. The service started off great and very attentive but lost a bit in attention towards the end when we wanted to order our coffee.

Overall, I can recommend the Restaurant Bärengasse – definitely at the upper end of the range for a lunch but then again worth it given the state of mind you walk out in. Make sure to book your table well in advance as on short notice you won’t be able to get a table.
