Decent Japanese lunch but not out of the ordinary: Restaurant Ginger (17. March 2017)
When you have lunch at the Ginger, you get the complementary “Edamame” to start and to make the feeling of waiting pass by quicker. But once you’ve placed your order …
… the “miso soup” arrives rather quickly and is served with a rather ‘ugly’ plastic spoon. The soup is fine, a bit ‘tasteless’ (in its literal sense) and too watery for me. But hey, it’s part of the menu and satisfies your first hunger.
For lunch, they have several bento boxes and I decided to go for the “Bento Small Sushi (Tempura, Sushi and Teriyaki Salmon)” (CHF 29.50) which is a decent portion so you wouldn’t be hungry right away again but it won’t carry you through the whole day without dinner. The bento box itself is good and freshly prepared. I like the rather large selection of tempura ranging from veggies to fish to prawns.
The atmosphere in the Ginger is quite nice and the waiter was competent – until the end when he was suddenly nowhere to be seen. I think I will start to ask restaurants from now on why they do not want guests to leave and pay their bills rapidly after the guests have eaten up. Really wondering!
However, the Restaurant Ginger is definitely a place which can be visited for a lunch – but you should have some time as one hour is really tight given you have to wait quite a bit between the miso soup and the main course.
