Delicious food in a place you’d never walk in but should: Restaurant Baratella (22. March 2017)

Frankly, when passing by the Restaurant Baratella, you would never consider to walk in as it does not look appealing from the outside. However, if you enter (in my case, I entered as the place was recommended to me), you will be quite positively surprised by the interior – it is simple yet neat and appealing. I went for the “Tagliatelle al Burro” (CHF 10.00 charged, instead of CHF 14.00 according to the menu) which were rather standard.

However, my main course, the “filetto di bue pepe verde (beef filet with green pepper, 200gr)” (CHF 43.50) with “Piselli Mamma Dorina (peas with bacon and onions)” (CHF 7.50) was outstanding. The meat was aromatic yet tender and went well with the green pepper corns. The piselli with the bacon are one of these comfort dishes – and you get supplement if you want. Something I haven’t experienced in a long time.

The service is friendly and very attentive and was nice enough to let us know that the wine we have had ordered, a “Bricco dell’Uccellone” (CHF 80.00), was not available in the year which was outlined on the menu (2012 but 2013) – and, unfortunately, the first bottle we’ve tried had cork but it was replaced without hesitation. With regards to the price the deal is absolutely fair. While I would have considered the pasta for CHF 14.00 (if that was what was actually charged) quite expensive, the price for the beef filet is absolutely fine as well as are the prices for the beverages (0,3l beer, CHF 4.50; 1l Water, CHF 9.50; double espresso, CHF 5.00 or a glass of ‘Bric del Gaian’, CHF 10.20). Overall, the Restaurant Baratella is a nice little restaurant which serves simple yet great food for a fair price in a simple but comfortable atmosphere with good and caring service – definitely recommended to be visited!
