Perfect change for lunch in central Zurich: Restaurant Blockhus (23. March 2017)
I have walked by the Restaurant Blockhus a variety of times and it never looked too appealing to me to walk in – but given I was looking for a restaurant I haven’t visited yet which was somewhat in walking distance to my office, the Blockhus popped up and it had a rather decent rating on Google so I decided to give it a try. Well, turns out, I was right to do so. I went for the menu which came with a “menu salad” which was rich in terms of ingredients including tomatoes and cucumber with a decent sauce.
As a main, I went for the “grilled prime rib with Café de Paris and Pommes Alumettes” (CHF 32.50) and the meat was not only good but it was also grilled perfectly medium rare. The herb butter (as it was not really a Café de Paris sauce as per my definition) was delicious but not enough to dip the somewhat dry Pommes Alumettes in the butter. Overall, it was a good main course though.
The place is rather small and you have to make sure to book a table in advance as else you will end up having no table for lunch. Secondly, it is rather crammed so you end up sharing a table with two other people if you don’t reserve early. Last but not least, the price is more than fair especially considering the location in central Zurich close to Bellevue. This is true for the dishes but also for the beverages (i.e. “double espresso” accounts for CHF 6.50; 0,5l water accounts for CHF 6.50). The service is friendly and helpful but also rather swift in his behaviour. Overall, I can recommend the Restaurant Blockhus (which is more a Spanish place than a Swiss place as the name might suggest) for lunch.
