Very local experience in Tequila: Clemen @ Mercado de Comida de Tequila (10. April 2017)
Given Guadalajara is in the vicinity of ‘Tequila’ (not the bottle or alcohol, but the town after which the alcohol is named), I decided to do a day trip there. And obviously, one has to eat so I went for the ‘Mercado de Comida de Tequila’ and had some simple Mexican quesadillas with different stuffings: “Quesadilla con jamón (ham), quesadilla con chorizo, quesadilla de chicharrón” (50 MXN) as well as a “regular quesadilla with cheese only” (10 MXN). Now, I liked the chorizo and chicharrón one a lot as well as the regular one but the ‘jamón’ one was rather disappointing.
The place is rather simple and there are only food stores – lined up one next to the other.
I ended up at ‘Clemen’ (apparently) which was decent and the service (the guy in the picture on the left) was friendly, forthcoming and helpful. So, if you are going to Tequila, it is worth visiting the Mercado de Comida de Tequila – as you can encounter truly local dishes (but you will still find quite a few tourists there).
Overall, it was probably one of the cheapest dishes for two – 160 MXN for the quesadillas and a second main course plus 1,5L of “Agua de Horchata” (40 MXN) – and it was a decent one.
