More than just good – when translation goes wrong: Restaurant Just Good @ Tifakara Lodge (17. April 2017)
When you are on your way to the ‘La Fortuna waterfall’ – which is in the middle of nowhere – you might be hungry at some point. And as the walk down to the waterfall is quite intense (well, especially the ‘up’-part is), it makes sense to strengthen yourself before the walk. By accident, I spotted the ‘Tifakara Lodge’ which also has a restaurant called ‘Solo Bueno’ but they translated it to “Just Good” instead of “Good only”, well, turns out, it is actually really good.
I went for the “Tropical Salad (lettuces combination and seasonal fruits (pineapple, papaya, strawberry), cashew, red onion, soya, honey, sesame seeds, ginger, carrot)” (3’400 CRC) as a starter which was surprisingly rich – a nice combination of various fruits which were refreshing and just overall a decent salad.
As a main course, I went for the rather standard “Pollo a la Plancha” (4’000 CRC) and while the chicken was rather dry, the underlying vegetables were actually super delicious. I must admit, I had expected very few of this place given it was right at the entrance of a touristy place but I was actually very positively surprised!
The place is kind of covered in the open – the area is open to all sides and you sit pretty much right next to if not in the jungle. The service is very attentive, friendly, and jovial just as you wish it to be …
… and if you are waiting a bit, you might even be lucky that the bird which visits this restaurant regularly, called Lola, shows up.
All in all, the Restaurant ‘Just Good’ is actually more than just good but rather really good! So, if you are on the way to the La Fortuna waterfall, you should definitely pay this place a visit.
