Good to stuff your tummy – not for more though: Restaurant Los Bisquets Bisquets Obregón (22. April 2017)

I have been to Los Bisquets Bisquetss Obregón a couple of years ago and I remembered the place immediately when I walked in. Simple but it serves the purpose, i.e. you get decent food for a decent price. However, the atmosphere is rather down to earth at the edge of being unpleasant – the service is definitely friendly and caring, but slow. We were three people, ordered different drinks, and it took a good 15 minutes until the last of us had the drink. I mean, come on – it is not that difficult to serve something to drink within 5 minutes after having taken up the order.

At least, “chips, spicy pickled vegetables and some salsa” were served right away so one could kill the immediate feeling of hunger by eating away all the chips. I didn’t dare trying the spicy pickled vegetables as my experience with spices in Mexico told me to not do that before a 11 hours flight.

They have a pretty nice offer though – for only 30 MXN you can “arm your dish”, i.e. pick a soup of the day (lentil soup today) and two glasses of “agua del dia”. Well, the soup was rather tasty and rich as it still had a lot of actual vegetables in it. However, the “agua del dia” was rather – well, let’s say, special. Not sure what exactly I was drinking but then again, hey, who’s asking! :-)

As a main course, I went for the “Combinacion Mexicana (deliciosas puntas de res al chipotle acompañadas de arroz, frijoles refritos, guacamole y una enchilada roja)” (147 MXN) which offered quite a selection of Mexican dishes. The beef cuts were actually delicious and the frijoles were quite nice too. The rice was rather boring and the enchilada roja was more of an enchilada verde and didn’t taste like much. So, overall, the main course was so-so.

However, at least the ‘agua de la semana’, a “Jugo de Limón, hierbabuena y chia” (38 MXN for 0,85L) was quite good and rich. So, overall if you are up for some simple dishes, the Los Bisquets Bisquets Obregón is a decent place to go – don’t expect anything fancy, anything special, or outstanding service. But you get your tummy full!
