An absolutely amazing view onto the Sechseläutenplatz: Restaurant Belcanto (5. May 2017)

7 years ago I had booked a table at the Belcanto but was unfortunately not able to attend the event. And ever since I haven’t considered the place as a location for lunch – but I figured, I should have. Luckily, it was one of the few sunny days this month and we got to sit outside on the terrace with a lovely view onto the Sechseläutenplatz which was absolutely perfect. Although it was still a bit fresh in terms of temperature, the atmosphere outside is just lovely.

The waiter was attentive and swift and took up our order within minutes – I started with a small portion of the “duet of beef and salmon tartare with toast and butter, accompanied by beef and salmon tataki, 90gr” (CHF 27.00) – and while CHF 27.00 for the small portion isn’t exactly a bargain, the tartares were good.

The “mangalitsa pork cordon bleu stuffed with farmer’s ham, wild garlic, and cheese from Appenzeller, accompanied by egg spaetzle and turnip” (CHF 42.00) was rich, strongly seasoned (but still pleasant) but the portion was a bit small for my personal gusto. In any case, the spaetzle were super smooth and outstanding in taste.

With regards to the beverages, the prices are typical for Zurich – i.e. 0,5l Valser, CHF 5.50; 0,75l Valser, CHF 9.50. All in all though, I can absolutely recommend the Belcanto – the food is decent, the lunch menu is decent in price as well, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere and view are lovely on a sunny day.
