The absolutely perfect location for a business lunch: Restaurant Schlössli (9. May 2017)
There are some locations in St. Gallen which stand out a bit – in various ways. Firstly, the Restaurant Schlössli is ranked quite well on TripAdvisor which was – ultimately – also the reason why I gave it a try. Secondly, the atmosphere is lovely as you have the feeling that you are in a former castle cellar and it is quite spacious so it is perfect for business lunches to discuss certain topics. Now, that is also what you will find there to a large degree – business men and women.
The price for the “Business Lunch” is accordingly high with CHF 52.50. However, it is still worth paying that as the “beet root tartare served with chestnuts and chestnut oil, as well as Mostbröckli from Fürstenland” was a great dish. Frankly, I was quite skeptical when I first got the plate as it looks somewhat boring but in terms of taste, it was a lovely choice.
The “medium-rare cooked beef entrecôte served with white asparagus from the Rheintal, various vegetables, and wild garlic spaetzle” was pretty much flawless. The veggies were good, the beef was very tender and they even served some sauce hollandaise (upon request) with the asparagus. What I loved most about the dish though were the ‘wild garlic spaetzle’ as they had an intense, yet not overwhelming flavour of wild garlic. Something which often fails to be produced when such a dish is created.
Our waiter was attentive, swift, and friendly. However, he tried to be ‘jovial’ – and that was not really his strength as it didn’t come across very natural. But, the actual service was close to flawless. To sum it up, you can definitely enjoy lunch in the Restaurant Schlössli – nice atmopshere, good food, a bit steep prices (for St. Gallen), and good service. Just make sure to book your table in advance as it was rather full – even on a Tuesday.
