Lovely ceviche – not so satisfactory ‘anticucho sauce’: Restaurant Segundo Muelle (13. May 2017)

| August 1, 2017 | 0 Comments

Apparently, Peruvian food is quite a thing in Lisbon these days. At least that is what the locals told me. So, it was time to give the ‘Segundo Muelle’ a try. I started with three types of ceviche: “Cebiche Tres Ajies (seafood with three chili peppers cream)”, “Cebiche Norteño (fresh fish soaked in leche de tigre northern Peruvian style, with limo chili pepper, cilantro, cassava and chifles (plantain chips))” and “Cebiche Segundo Muelle (fish and octopus with our secret cream)”. And it was a perfect start – rich, intense, and lovely in terms of variety of flavours.

The “Plancha Anticuchera (grilled chopped beef tenderloin, anticucho sauce, fried corn, and French fries)” (EUR 18.00) on the other hand was really not to my liking. I mean, the meat itself was cooked perfectly medium rare as ordered but this ‘anticucho sauce’ somehow has a flavour of something sour which was burned. So, not really pleasant.

The “lemon sorbet” which I had as a dessert was super standard – so while the ‘Peruvian dish’ ceviche was great, the rest was not really to my liking. However, it is compensated to some degree by the friendliness of the service. They are incredibly much trying to help and be there – buuuuut it is a country which is asks you to be patient. It takes a solid 20 minutes for a Mojito and a bottle of water to be served. Not really to my gusto.

The place itself is spacious and modern – so you feel comfortable almost right away. However, the chairs are – while definitely lovely in design – not really among the most comfortable ones I’ve been sitting on lately.

Overall, I’m not really sure what to think about the place. It is generally nice, the service is friendly but could be more attentive, the dishes vary strongly in quality (or at least in the degree to which they fit to my personal preferences). So, I think it is one of these places where I’d say – it is worth to visit and try yourself to get your own opinion about it.
