Decent food in a lovely manor: Seminar Rooms @ Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg (15. – 19. May 2017)

During a one week training I got to try various versions of lunch servings at the Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg. Overall, the dishes are quite fine as you get offered quite a variety of different things but they were not really anything special. I mean, functional, tasted well, but definitely not in the area I would consider exceptional food to be.

However, there was always a choice of cold and warm starters, cold cuts and cheeses …

… as well as a soup and one to two warm main dishes. So, overall, one would have enough to eat and also a decent selection to pick from. However, the overall quality was rather standard and definitely nothing out of the ordinary.

What is truly remarkable is the place itself though – it used to belong to one of the richest Dutch guys back in the days and it was the biggest building in the Netherlands for quite a while. So the manor itself is incredible in terms of the building itself, in terms of the park, the lake around it – just breath taking.

Even the old rooms which we got to use as seminar rooms are stunning …

… what was not so great though …

… were the rooms. I mean, if you arrive and you basically see that the toilet is not cleaned, there are still marks of the previous user, and not pretty marks, including the paper which wasn’t flushed down properly and the trash bin is full … lovely, really!

So, overall, while I loved the place, I am not quite sure how I would rate it overall – I mean, the food is average, the service is friendly but more problem oriented than solution oriented (e.g. we had one vegetarian in the group and there was one dish offered – salad). One dish! I mean, come on – for EUR 255.00 a day (rate including seminar and catering) I consider this quite a rip off.
