Average tea house on top of Taipei: Yuen Shyu Yuen Teahouse (緣續緣) (1. June 2017)
Taipei has a little mountain from which you can kind of overlook the city – if you’re up for hiking I suppose it is rather nice. If you are exhausted after five days of walking an average of 12 to 15 kilometers, it is nothing special up there. But at least there is a variety of different tea houses which one should consider visiting. We originally wanted to go to another tea house but it was closed so we ended up at this one. I ordered the “Jasmine Oolong Tea” (200 NTD) which was absolutely great. I love the way they prepare the tea – it is just so much more aromatic than the stuff we have in Switzerland (unless, obviously, you’re ready to spend a fortune).
The “fermented cabbage” and the “semi-fried shrimp” on the other hand were not really to my liking but some of the group decided it was a good idea to have that with tea. The place itself is nothing special in terms of atmosphere but you can at least sit outside in the shade making the heat bearable. The service is friendly and swift.
Overall, if you end up coming to the house mountain of Taipei, it is definitely worth making a stop at a tea house but I suppose any other tea house up there is as good as this one.
