Always a great lunch opportunity during the working week: Restaurant Accademia del Gusto (12. June 2017)

The Accademia del Gusto definitely belongs to the better restaurants in Zurich – also for lunch. However, one has to be aware that the price is not necessarily at the lower end of the range. Still, it is absolutely worth paying for it. Today, I started with a “tatar di tonno con pomodori, cetrioli e croutons (marinated tuna tartare with tomatoes, cucumbers, and croutons)” (CHF 25.00) which was better than expected. Why better? Well, I did not really expect that I would like the croutons and the cucumbers that much in a tartare but it was actually great!

As a main, I went for the “fegato di vitello alla veneziana (veal liver, prepared Venetian style)” (CHF 36.00) which was absolutely delicious as it was almost melting in your mouth but at the same time being very aromatic. While the price was generally absolutely fine, the portion size could definitely have been bigger.

The “tagliolini” which came with the main course were good but overall rather blunt.

What I like a lot about this restaurant is not only the professionalism of the service but also the fact that you get a small trait for dessert – mango soup, some chocolates. Now, what I do not consider optimal. If you are having lunch for two and you then bring only two things for both and one where you have to decide.

The atmosphere is as lovely as the service – as it is not only nice but you also have some privacy as the room between the tables is quite spacious which is often not the case. The service is super attentive and friendly but – somehow like always – their attention kind of fades away towards the end of the meal. The prices for the beverages are rather steep too – 0,5l of San Pellegrino accounts for CHF 7.00, a double espresso for CHF 8.00 and 3 dl of ‘Bruciato’ for CHF 30.00. However, in my view it is still absolutely worth going there for lunch! Just make sure to book a table in advance.
