A true gem only reachable by ferry: Hotel Elvezia al Lago (8. July 2017)
Sometimes you just have to act upon instinct – and it turns out to be a good call. While taking the ferry to ship around Lake Maggiore, the ship stopped close to a tiny hotel with a terrace for barely 30 seconds. And it was time to jump off that ship onto the runway and off to the restaurant. The location is just gorgeous. It is absolutely perfect to enjoy a glass of wine (1dl Merlot, CHF 4.20) in the sun.
However, the service is not entirely up to the task – while I had originally ordered a bottle of water (1l, CHF 9.00), I had to ask twice until it finally arrived. Secondly, the idea was to have some water melon but given there were some language barriers (i.e. the waiter didn’t speak proper English), we got “prosciutto e melone” (CHF 26.50) but honey melon and not water melon.
Despite this little episode of non-functional service, the waiter was friendly and helpful and the place is absolutely beautiful – when you then walk to the next stop (as the cruise ship doesn’t always stop at this place), you can see how lovely the place really is.
So, if you are in Lugano, make sure to take a boat (bring your Halbtax) and jump off at Elvezia al Lago or any of the upcoming stops – it truly is breathtaking there and perfect to relax for a weekend!
