Deteriorating service throughout the evening: Restaurant Blaue Ente (11. July 2017)

| October 16, 2017 | 0 Comments

After years of trying and often having to cancel last minute, I finally managed to visit the Blaue Ente. We were late – two hours to be precise – due to work so obviously, the crew wasn’t too happy about that. Understandably so. We were seated and attended quite swiftly. I ordered the “South African scampi with lemon risotto and marinated vegetables” (CHF 27.00) and while the risotto had a lovely lemon taste, the rest of the dish wasn’t really that exquisite. Although it did look nice.

On the other hand, the main course was quite a bargain. You would first think that this amount of meat (see picture below) for CHF 48.00, the “Roastbeef “Ojo de Agua” – D.M. Estanzia Argentina” is a rip-off. And well, I thought so at first too. But here comes the plot twist: It’s à discretion! So you can order again. And again. And again! And the meat was absolutely good!

What made it even better were the “herb salsa and the Sauce Béarnaise served with Pommess Allumettes”. The fries were a bit too dry for my personal gusto but nevertheless tasty with the Sauce Béarnaise.

The “potato bread” which was served in the beginning with “hummus spread” (interesting combination but not bad) helps to fill you up a bit while you’re waiting. Now, the problem with the evening was the deteriorating quality of the service. While at first they were friendly and attentive, they become less friendly and less attentive over time. I get that they want to go home at some point but hey, we were in the middle of the dinner so you cannot really just ignore us and not serve us any of this fine wine we’ve had, right?

In any case, the Blaue Ente is a nice place which offers decent food – to me, nothing extraordinary but good. The service quality varies over time and depends highly on the waiter / waitress. Attention though isn’t their strongest point. Besides that, the prices are also solid – at the upper end. So, all in all, it’s fine but nothing I’d absolutely recommend without limitations.
