Absolutely delicious dishes and caring service: Restaurant Didi’s Frieden (26. July 2017)

It is a couple of years ago since I’ve last dined at the Restaurant Didi’s Frieden but I have had good memories. So it was time to give it another try. Given we increased the booking by one person only shortly before the reservation, they were not really able to increase the booking as the place was fully booked but they’ve made it possible anyway and arranged a third chair at the table we had originally booked.

After the menu was brought and we have had ordered our selection, a small amuse bouche from the kitchen was served – “apple jus soup with raw marinated salmon on saffron marinated fennel”. Sounded a bit awkward but was actually a delicious starter for my taste buds.

As a starter I went for the “cold corn soup with avocado, chili and mint served with a grilled lobster tail” (CHF 26.00). The soup had an intense taste of corn and the lobster tail was absolutely delicious. While I get that lobster is expensive the “add-on” lobster accounted for CHF 9.00 which I consider quite hefty.

The “filet from the bio pork from Zurich served on cheek ragout with chanterelles, zucchini slices and saffron risotto”(CHF 48.00) was as delicious as the starter. The meat was tender and aromatic and the saffron risotto perfectly prepared. Frankly, a great dish – nothing to complain either.

So, while I did not go for the four or five course menu as I originally intended, the two courses turned out to be quite perfect. The food is aromatic, fresh, prepared in a great way, and looks appealing. And all of that is topped with a lovely atmosphere and good service. Therefore, I can absolutely recommend Didi’s Frieden – just make sure that you book a table in advance as it is even fully booked on a Wednesday evening.
