Decent dishes but a bit over-priced: Restaurant Real (28. August 2017)
While I have tried a couple of restaurants in the vicinity of the Restaurant Real, I have actually never been here before. Given th rating was quite good, I decided to give it a try and went for the “menu” (CHF 42.00) which started with some “bread and butter” being served and luckily being restocked after I finished it for the first time (given I was early and starving).
As a little welcome from the kitchen, they served a tiny piece of “tortilla” which was nice but well, nothing special.
The starter of the menu, a “cold zucchini soup” was definitely interesting in terms of taste and consistency as it was rather thick and intense in taste.
The “mixed grilled fish, sauce tatar, rice and spinach” which was the main course was generally fine as the majority of the fishes were tasty but some were a bit too ‘fishy’ and a bit too ‘chewy’ for my taste. However, still a decent main course and – for once – they had served enough sauce tatar.
The service is attentive, and friendly. Also, it is probably one of these places where the waiters are there longer than the majority of the furniture. Knowing what they’re doing. Steadily. When it comes to booking a table, make sure you let them know you want to sit outside when you book – as there is only a few tables to sit outside and you won’t stand a chance to get one if you don’t let them know in advance. Overall, I get why the Restaurant Real has a good rating – the food is fine, the prices are Zurich-style but still decent, the atmosphere is good, and the service does really know what they do.
