Friendly service with average beef filet: Restaurant Gaucho (31. August 2017)
It is quite some time ago since I’ve been to the Restaurant Gaucho and I remember that I’ve liked it the last time, so I was all the more curious how it was going to be this time. As a starter I went for “different antipasti” (CHF 24.00 per person; for two people) which were good in terms of taste as well as selection.
As a main course, I decided to go for the “black Angus filet prepared on the charcoal grill (250gr)” (CHF 55.00) and “potatoes and bean salad” (+ CHF 8.00). Frankly, the CHF 8.00 for the side dishes are kind of a rip-off, especially as you do not have a choice. There is just that side dish and that is all you get. At least the meat is tasty and was prepared according to my order medium-rare.
The place is rather small and only has a few tables – therefore, it is key that you book a table in advance. Other than that, the service is friendly and generally attentive.
When it comes to the prices of the beverages, they are generally decent for Zurich. A “double espresso” accounts for CHF 6.50, a liter of mineral water for CHF 9.00 and a glass of “Malbec Sophenia” for CHF 8.00 as well as a glass of “Verdejo”. So, overall, the Restaurant Gaucho offers a decent dinner but admittedly, it is not the best meat I’ve tried in my life.
