A café offering good lunch menus: Restaurant Café Gentile (12. September 2017)
I had walked by the Café Gentile quite a couple of times but somehow I never saw it as more than a regular place for coffee. Turns out, I was wrong. While I had a coffee there in the morning to prepare with a colleague for a meeting, we figured it would be more efficient to have lunch there too than to walk all over the city of St. Gallen given it was raining. So, I pleasantly realized that the dishes they offered were looking quite fine. The “Apple Celery Cream Soup” as a starter wasn’t optically appealing really but was somehow quite tasty overall.
The “home-made egg spaetzle served on a bell pepper sauce with vegetables” (CHF 20.00) was surprisingly delicious. The consistency of the spaetzle was great and the sauce in which they came was as good.
The service was varying a bit – the waitress was on the one hand side friendly, but then again she was not very attentive and when my friend made a joke, she even reacted quite heavily to it. The prices for the dishes are super fair – and the same is actually true for the beverages (e.g. “double espresso” for CHF 5.80; 0,25l San Pellegrino for CHF 4.70; although the latter is a bit expensive). While it won’t become my favourite place ever, the food is decent, the prices are okay, and generally they manage to serve things within a decent timeframe. Not a must, but definitely a can do.
