A real Italian experience in terms of food and noisiness: Restaurant La Baracca (26. September 2017)

| January 3, 2018 | 0 Comments

It is about three years ago since I’ve visited the La Baracca – and I have quite positive memories about it. Therefore, it was time to pay it a visit again and to try out what they had on the menu. We started with “Tris di Bruschette della Casa con Borratina Affumicata e Zucca (Pate di Tartufo, Funghi sott’olio, Carciofi)” (CHF 25.50) which was lovely. The slices are large enough so you can easily divide it by three. Secondly, they bruschette are all very delicious.

What I liked more though was the “Burrata d’Andria con San Daniele e Miele al Tartufo” (CHF 32.50). The portion is actually quite huge and you would be kind of almost satisfied with what you ate after these two courses. Well, given I was not expecting to get two full balls of burrata, more was to come. The burrata is amazing in combination with the ham – and the liquidity and flavour of the burrata are just outstanding.

The next course was a small (!) portion of the “Gnocchi di Patate viola alla Cremda di Gorgonzola” (CHF 21.50; a regular portion would have accounted for CHF 26.50). What I loved about the gnocchi was that they were prepared from blue potatoes. Something I haven’t tried yet.

My main course, the “Tagliata di Tonno Rosso alla Rucola e datterini” (CHF 44.50) was definitely better than expected. I mean, all I’ve tried before the main was delicious, no question. However, when you eat fish, or more specifically tuna, in a city which isn’t close to the sea, it is usually not the best dish. However, the tuna was absolutely mouth-watering.

And as you are in an Italian restaurant, you get as an amuse bouche small slices of pizza. Well, not that innovative but definitely making you feel like in an Italian place.

The restaurant itself is lovely in terms of decoration and comfort – however, when the door is open as it was in the beginning, it is quite cold. On the other hand, once the door is closed and the place becomes packed, it is actually exactly the opposite, i.e. it becomes super warm.

The service is very friendly but wasn’t always coordinating the kitchen very well – some of us had their second course while the others were still waiting for their first. Not exactly how a good timing works. However, they made up for it with their passion and friendliness. The prices are very decent too for the food as well as for the beverages, i.e. 1dl Roero Arneis for CHF 6.50, 0,7l mineral water for CHF 7.50 or a bottle of “Varmat, Barbera d’Asti, Morandina, DOCG, Piemonte” for CHF 77.00.

All in all, I can highly recommend the La Baracca – just make absolutely sure to book your table in advance as even on a Tuesday evening, the place was completely full.
