A speakeasy pretending to be hard to get (in): Frank’s Bar (26. October 2017)

| March 1, 2018 | 0 Comments

Frank’s Bar is a speakeasy which isn’t so hidden anymore. I mean, when you get there they still totally treat it like a speakeasy. Basically, you have to say the “password” which is apparently on their Facebook page. Now, although checking the Facebook page quite extensively, I wasn’t able to find the password. So obviously, the bouncer wouldn’t let us in. But after so and so many people had passed without saying the password, we basically called the bouncer out on it and he let us in.

Once you’re “in”, you’re not really in yet. There is a phone cabin where you have to dial to enter the actual bar. When you’re finally in then, you’ll figure, it’s quite empty.

The drinks, however, are decent but nothing out of the ordinary. My “Martinez (Antica Formula, Gin Bombay, Marraschino, Bitter aromatico, limon)” (190 ARS) was definitely next level bitter. My “Campfire (Johnnie Walker Black, Martini Bitter, Anana, Miel, Limon)” (210 ARS) on the other hand, was quite okay.

The decoration of the place is generally appealing …

… and the bar definitely offers a decent selection of alcohols. In terms of interior design the place is a bit too much in the 70ies for my gusto. The waiters are attentive and friendly.

So, the Frank’s Bar is a nice speakeasy with decent music (also a bit too much in the 70ies and 80ies) in a decent atmosphere but the ‘it is so difficult to get in here’ attitude of the bouncer kind of ruins it. I mean, it is not nearly as fancy and special and crowded as it should be considering his behaviour. Still, worth visiting when you’re in Buenos Aires.
