Not recommendable mall food: Restaurant Wafi Gourmet @ City Centre Mall (7. November 2017)

| March 15, 2018 | 0 Comments

The Wafi Gourmet doesn’t look appealing from the outside as it is really just a fast food place converted into a restaurant but with the light settings of an American mall. The staff is friendly and leads you to the table but then it takes quite a bit until they take up your order. As a starter we went for “Tabbouleh” (2.40 BD), “Hommos with pine seeds” (2.80 BD), and some kind of ‘fried cheese’. The tabouleh and hommos were great and the dough coated fried cheese was decent too – not over the top but definitely decent!

What I liked a lot was the fact that they had brought a quite extensive vegetable plate. Perfect to dip in the hommos or to wrap the tabouleh in the salad leaves.

The “Arabic bread” was not only fitting perfectly to the hommos but it was also served hot. A bit tricky to touch as it really is hot but it is somehow even more tasty!

We went for another ‘wrapped cheese’ which was fine and definitely way better than …

… the “halloumi cheese” (3.30 BD) which was not really tasting like anything than burned and was super chewy so it felt you were eating chewing gum which has been laying there for years.

The “Meat Tikka (marinated with yogurt and black pepper)” (4.50 BD) I went for was definitely too much. The meat was good but had a charcoal flavour whihcl frankly it was missing a bit the overall conception of the dish is rather blunt.

The portion of “Arabic rice” (1.30 BD) each of us had ordered was definitely an overkill. One for the whole table would have done.

The prices are rather hefty for what you get, so I would recommend you to dine at another premise within the mall than Wafi Gourmet. The service is friendly but also not really fully up to the task. Secondly, the prices for beverages are also rather steep with 1.50 BD for 1,5l mineral water or 3.10 BD (fresh pomegranate juice).
