Traditional hearty Swiss lunch: Restaurant zum Geni (24. November 2017)
The restaurant isn’t exactly located in the centre of Liestal so you kind of have to know it is there (which in my case, TripAdvisor helped to find it). But it is actually worth the short walk from the main station as it is a decent little village restaurant with a good lunch offering. As it was Friday already, they had run out of parts of their ‘weekly menu’ which was a bit of a pity but they still offer quite a decent selection of traditional Swiss dishes like “home made veal cordon bleu with ham and cheese and home-made spaetzle” (CHF 41.50) and it tasted exactly that way: traditionally good.
The waitress was attentive and friendly taking up our order within a few minutes and serving the “sparkling water, 0,5l” (CHF 5.60) within no time. And even when it came to paying the bill she was rather quick – which is a surprisingly rare trait. The price for a “double espresso” (CHF 5.50) is also decent. According to my company for lunch, the place had been renovated and definitely is in a way better shape than it used to be 20 years ago. All in all, the zum Geni is a good place for a quick and hearty Swiss lunch.
