Decent breakfast selection but not over the top: Restaurant @ The St. Regis Abu Dhabi (8. December 2017)

My limited experience with The St. Regis hotels has set the threshold rather high. The St. Regis Puerto Vallarta and The St. Regis Mumbai have set the bar incredibly high in terms of breakfast standards. So, obviously, I was expecting the same from The St. Regis Abu Dhabi but unfortunately it didn’t live up to my expectations.

Sure, you find a selection of different dishes ranging from typical Indian dishes …

… to traditional European breakfast elements like boiled eggs …

… and more Indian dishes …

… fried stuff …

… a variety of jars and cereals …

… freshly pressed juices …

… sweets and – admittedly – quite lovely bread slices with toppings (e.g. avocado or salmon) …

… as well as a ‘pork station’.

The selection of different breads is very good …

… as well as the selection of yogurts …

… cereals …

… vegetables and traditional dishes like hummus …

… while the selection of cheese, dried fish and cold cuts is rather limited.

What I really liked were the different bread slices with toppings. The avocado was rich and the watermelon one was amazing! Definitely a must try!

You can order egg dishes and the “healthy egg white omelette (served with a choice of spinach, ricotta cheese, asparagus)” did not only look pretty when served but was good in taste – especially with the ricotta cheese.

What I was missing was the wow effect. The selection is large, the food is good, but somehow there was nothing which awed me. The place itself is nice but also not really extraordinary. The waitress which attended me was super friendly and caring though making it a very pleasant breakfast experience. So, if you are staying in Abu Dhabi, I can absolutely recommend The St. Regis Abu Dhabi and the breakfast buffet – just don’t expect something over the top.
