Lovely re-interpreted Asian cuisine: Restaurant Meisei (11. December 2017)

| April 23, 2018 | 0 Comments

The Meisei was one of the first restaurants which was recommended to me and while I had the ‘plesaure’ of enjoying a drink on the roof top terrace with horrible service, the restaurant on the first floor is a completely different experience. I started with “Himalayan Edamame with pink salt” (3.000 BHD) which was, well, edamame, but good.

As we were a group of people, it was time for “Yuzu Edamame with Japanese lemon” (3.000 BHD) which was interesting but a bit tricky to eat as you would have to dip the edamame in the sauce which doesn’t make it an entirely perfect dish to share.

The “Pank Shrimp Tempura” (7.000 BHD) was okay -nothing outstanding so I wouldn’t order it again.

The “Meisei Dimsum” (8.500 BHD) on the other hand were good and actually quite a pleasure to look at. I mean, look how colourful the dim sum are!

Given I had been treated for chili hamour lately and liked it, I decided to try the same fish in another form and went for “spicy Hammour ceviche (marinated baby hammour, aji panca citrus vinaigrette)” (9.000 BHD) which was frankly quite lovely.

My main course were the “pulled ginger beef sliders (yuzu garlic aioli, spring onions, caramelized shallots, roasted peppers)” (8.800 BHD) which were great in terms of the meat. Personally, I didn’t like the buns so much as the bread was too soft and fluffy. The carrot sticks which came with it were great though.

For dessert, I went for two balls of “White Chocolate” and one of “Matcha Green Tea” (3.000 BHD each, respectively it should have been 2.500 BHD per menu). The white chocolate ice cream is heavy but lovely as it is not too dense in consistency and rich in flavour. The matcha green tea on the other hand is rather straight forward.

The serving of the “double espresso” (3.000 BHD) deserves to be mentioned due to its style.

I had asked for extra bread which was delivered but they charged 2.000 BHD for bread. I mean, okay, I get it, it’s also not free but we’re consuming here for over 250.000 BHD and you’re charging us for bread? Really? Besides the little ‘bread incident’, the place is nice, spacious, the food is good and the service was really dedicated! Prices for alcohol are a bit over the top with 5.800 BHD for a glass of “Wolf Blass Chardonnay” and 44.000 BHD for a bottle of Caliterra Cabarnet Sauvignon. So, all in all, the restaurant is definitely worth a visit in terms of quality of the food. More than a can do.
