How you expect mall food to be – not great: Restaurant Rice Bowl (12. December 2017)
Given I’m staying next to the Bahrain City Centre Mall and the majority of restaurants I have tried in there is so far so good, I decided to make it a thing to try each and every restaurant in there. And well, Rice Bowl was next. Not necessarily a place you must try. The atmosphere is definitely not great and the service is a bit challenged with rather simple tasks. The “Garlic Nan” (0.600 BHD) is rather literal as it is basically a lot of garlic pasted on to the nan bread. Not bad but you must like garlic a lot – I had to brush of the majority of it.
The “Hommos” (1.800 BHD) was definitely the worst I have had in Bahrain, so when a place is called Rice Bowl you should probably not order Middle Eastern food.
My colleague is Egyptian and has been telling us about “Kushari” (3.700 BHD) for the past 8 weeks. So it was about time to try it. And ehm, well, I guess in Switzerland you’d call it ‘best of the rest’ as it is chickpeas, lentils, spaghetti, bread crumbs …
… and you top it off with some spicy tomato sauce. So, yeah, it is definitely comfort food but it is also not the greatest of dishes. I imagine if you have a bad hangover, this might cure it though.
To sum it up, not really a place you want to go to. There is plenty of better restaurants in the mall.
