Experience the true local thing: مطاعم عمّان الكبرى aka Great Amman Restaurant (29. December 2017)
The place is one I would never have entered if it wasn’t recommended to me. The driver who took us to Petra for the day, told me about this place, so I decided to give it a try. It is incredibly simple in terms of decoration, i.e. there is none and language is a barrier to some degree but luckily the menu is in English. So, I went for the “Hommous” (1.500 JOD) which was decent but not more than that. The spicy sauce which was served with it was much to my liking – without knowing what exactly it was.
The “Shish Taouk” (6.000 JOD) was the traditional dish which was recommended to me and I was a bit surprised at first when I received this …
… until I realized that I had to uncover the actual meat. And the meat was great in terms of taste and nicely grilled. So, I can recommend you the Shish Taouk at the Great Amman Restaurant.
However, it is really for the food you should come and not much more as the place is – as initially mentioned – rather simple.
Overall, the Great Amman Restaurant is worth an experience, i.e. trying it. Prices are very fair while the “mineral water” (1.500 JOD) is actually the most expensive thing on the menu (besides the main courses). The place was busy the whole time while I was there – people coming and going at all times, so it is very popular among the locals.
